Prof. Peter Mclaren Leads a Delegation to FOE Published:2015-11-04 17:27:27  Views:10

On the morning of October 13, 2015, along with five colleagues, Prof. Peter McLaren paid a visit to the Faculty of Education (FOE) and participated in a seminar at Room 454 in Yingdong Building. Dean of FOE, Prof. SHI Zhongying, Prof. KANG Yongjiu from the Institute of Education Theories and Prof. ZHANG Lili received the delegation.

 

Prof. Peter McLaren is a Professor in the Division of Urban Schooling, the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, University of California and a distinguished professor of the College of Educational Studies, Chapman University. He is known as one of the leading architects of critical pedagogy and for his scholarly writings on critical literacy, the sociology of education, cultural studies, critical ethnography, and Marxist theory.

 

At the seminar, Professor McLaren gave a lecture on Critical Pedagogy & Marx to the students and faculty of FOE. A heated discussion and exchange of thoughts on the topic followed after the lecture. Prof. McLaren also interacted with the audience by taking and answering questions.

 

Towards the end of the seminar, Dean SHI expressed the momentous importance of this seminar for Beijing Normal University and country at large, likening it to John Dewey’s historic yearlong visit at Beijing Normal University. Prof. KANG presented gifts to the delegations on behalf of FOE.
