The 1st Global Teacher Education Summit was held on October 28-30, 2011 at the Beijing Normal University in Beijing, China. This conference was hosted by the Center for Teacher Education Research of the Beijing Normal University, the Key Institute of Humanity and Social Science of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. With the theme of How to Prepare Teachers in the 21st Century: The Dialogue between the East and the West, the attendants approached a variety of subfields, for instance, Goals of Teacher Education, Teacher EducationCurriculum, Teaching Practice, Teacher Educators and System and Standard of Teacher Education.
There were 24 panel sessions and two special sessions during the summit, of which one was Young Scholars of Teacher Education Research, and the other the Courage to Teach in China. 26 well-known experts in teacher education throughout the world, such as Andy Hargreaves, Ken Zeichner, Christopher Day, D. Jean Clandinin, Lin Goodwin, along with more than 420 scholars and front-line teachers from 8 countries and regions, attended the conference and discussed issues regarding teacher education. Both domestic and foreign participants mainly focused on the quality of teachers, practice and diverse research methods.
The summit attracted much attention, and offered an interactive communicating platform for front-line teachers and experts from both China and foreign countries.
