The Delegation of FOE, BNU Attending 2013 AERA Annual Conference in San Francisco Published:2013-05-06 15:59:13  Views:10

       From April 26 to May 2, 2013, headed by Shi Zhongying, Dean of FOE, the delegation of the Faculty of Education, BNU composed of 11 faculty members including Zeng Xiaodong, Liu Fuxing, Zhu Zhiyong, Zhanglili, Yu Yafeng, Du Liang, Kan Wei, Zhou Jinyan, Liu Shuiyun and Liu Qiang attended 2013 annual conference of American Educational Research Association (AERA) in San Francisco.

The theme of this annual conference is Education and Poverty: Theory, Research, Policy and Praxis. AERA received more than 13000 papers this year. Through anonymous review, the papers submitted by 11 FOE faculty members were accepted and the authors were invited to present their papers at the annual conference.

During the conference, on the evening of April 29, 2013, FOE held the Reception of the Faculty of Education, Beijing Normal University at Grand Hyatt Hotel. This was the first time that FOE held such large-scale reception overseas. Over 100 Scholars from home and abroad attended the reception, among whom were several deans of schools of education, famous scholars, many oversea alumni of BNU, and well-known experts in educational field. This reception promoted the exchange and cooperation among oversea academic institutions and international partners. At the reception, the Faculty also released the newest policies of recruiting oversea talents, and expressed appreciation for the great supports from Chinese and foreign friends and alumni of BNU.

At the same time, the Faculty made use of recruitment platform offered by AERA to release the recruitment information, so as to recruit excellent talents from abroad for FOE. This is the first oversea recruitment activity of large scale for FOE. Application materials of 20 scholars from U.S.A., U.K., Japan, and Korea have been received. Some of them received their degrees from world famous universities like Vanderbilt University, University of Michigan, University of Georgia, University of Minnesota, and Arizona State University. Quite a few of them have had the peer-viewed paper published. Through preliminary screening of the recruitment committee, 40-minute interview per person was arranged for 12 applicants.

On the noon of April 28, 2013, Dr. Shi Zhongying, Dr. Kan Wei, and Dr. Liu Qiang met with Prof. Andy Tolmie, Dean of Graduate School of IOE. They talked about collaborations in discipline construction, research cooperation, and student exchange.

On the morning of April 30, 2013, being the chairman on duty of International Alliance of Leading Education Institutions, Dr. Shi Zhongying, together with Dr. Liu Qiang participated in the “IALEI Breakfast Meeting” launched by Dean Julie Underwood, from University of Wisconsin, Madison. They discussed about the Conference of Higher Education Admission Policy to be held from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, 2013 at BNU and other issues.

On the morning of April 26, 2013, the delegation of FOE visited the School of Education, the University of South California and signed MOU with it.

On the morning of May 1, 2013, the delegation of FOE visited the School of Education, Stanford University.
