From November 7 to 9, 2016, an FOE delegation led by Dean ZHU Xudong left for the US to attend the Annual International Network for Education Institutes (INEI) Symposium at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The theme of the symposium this year was Migration, Displacement and Mobility. The FOE delegates included Assistant Dean LIU Qiang, Prof. TAN Chuanbao and Dr. KAN Wei.

During the symposium, a Dean’s Meeting was held among INEI partners to discuss the future direction of INEI and how the network could better meet the developmental needs of all its members. At the meeting, Dean Zhu proposed that INEI could take full advantages of enterprises, foundation, charities and non-profit organizations, etc. to found an INEI Affiliated International Education School at the Faculty of Education, BNU. He also shared with other INEI members about the Global Education Leadership Program FOE was doing with Hainan Airlines, and he invited INEI members to recommend well-known scholars to participate in the program. The meeting approved that the 2017 Annual INEI Symposium would be held at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

During the Symposium, Dean Zhu took the opportunity to meet with Dean Diana Hess from School of Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dean Rudiger Laugksch from School of Education, The University of Cape Town and Vice Dean Dong-Yeol PARK from College of Education, Seoul National University respectively for discussions on student and faculty exchange, joint research, joint teaching and co-hosting summer camps, etc.

Since the year of 2015, INEI has set up an INEI International Scientific Research Foundation to encourage and foster joint scientific research collaboration among the INEI member institutes. Each year, the Foundation supports two of the most promising collaborations in the network with $5,000USD for each group to begin research projects. This year, Prof. Tan Chuanbao’s team research project titled A Comparative Case Study of Two University Programs in Beijing and London and Dr. Kan Wei’s team project titled Future Research Work in Asian Countries got selected as the winners, and the two professors were invited to give presentations at the symposium. Their presentations were greatly valued by the symposium participants.

During the visit, the FOE delegates met with Prof. Thomas Popkewitz and Prof. Alan Lockwood, two old friends of FOE, and some visiting students and scholars at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They also took a tour at a local elementary school.

School Visits

The delegation's visit to the United States achieved the anticipated outcomes, further enhancing the International impact of the Faculty of Education, upgrading the partnership with other INEI members and promoting the friendship with overseas scholars.
