Faculty and Students from FOE, BNU Attend 2015 AERA Annual Meeting and Host Reception Published:2015-04-30 14:51:18  Views:10

        From April 15th to 19th, the FOE delegation attended the AERA (American Education Research Association) annual meeting, hosted a reception and visited the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

        The AERA annual meeting is the largest gathering of scholars in the field of education research. It is a showcase for ground-breaking, innovative studies in a diverse array of areas -- from early education to higher education, from digital learning to second language literacy. It provides a possibility of encounter with different thoughts and ideas that will shape tomorrow's education practices and policies, and builds a bridge which connects leading thinkers from the U.S. and around the world. 

        The 2015 AERA Annual Meeting was hosted in Chicago this year. The theme was 'Toward Justice: Culture, Language, and Heritage in Education Research and Praxis', with an expected attendance of almost 20,000, featured over 2,600 sessions.

        7 Faculty and 3 Graduate students from Faculty of Education , BNU presented their papers on 9 sessions.

        FOE and School of Education, University of Hong Kong hosted a joint reception on 17th evening. More than 200 professors and students attended. Dean SHI Zhongying and Dean Stephen Andrews made the remarks and sign the MOU of Cooperation between the two institutions.

        After the AERA annual meeting, the delegation visited University of Wisconsin-Madison. The delegation had a communication with the professors and faculty members from School of Education, Division of International Studies, Continuing Studies, and Graduate School. After that, and Vice Provost professor Guido Podesta met the delegation respectively. Dean SHI Zhongying, commissioned by BNU president Dong Qi, conveyed the invitation to the Provost professor Sarah Mangelsdorf to visit China. The Provost was glad to accept the invitation.

      The visit of delegation to the U.S has achieved success, with dissemination of academic achievements from Faculty of Education, expansion of BNU’s oversea influence, promotion of partnership with a legion of academic institutions and enhancement of friendship with foreign scholars. Faculty and students who attended this meeting have also received a lot of inspiration and stimulation. The year 2016 will be 100-year anniversary of AERA. The annual meeting of 2016 is planned to be held in Washington D.C., the capital of the U.S from April 8th to 12th , themed as 'Public Scholarship to Educate Diverse Democracies'.
